SoCAL HS: Huntington Beach Off to Best Start in History

When Huntington Beach beat Palos Verdes, 10-9, on Tuesday in a CIF-Southern Section game, it was not only a big win in a heated rivalry. Huntington Beach, now 6-0, is off to its best start in program history.
“My guys have worked incredibly hard throughout the offseason in preparation for games like” Tuesday’s, said Huntington Beach head coach Brian Dunn. “We knew that if we stayed cool, calm and collected, we would have a good chance of riding out the emotional ups and downs enough to come out with a W.”
Huntington Beach is one of six teams in the CIF-Southern Section teams that is currently unbeaten, and along with Harvard-Westlake and Oak Park, the Oilers are 6-0.
On Tuesday, Huntington Beach attackman Jace Gan (two goals, one assist) scored the winning goal in a game marked by solid defensive play. Steven Koressel had four goals and two assists.
Huntington Beach will try to extend its win steak to seven on Friday when it plays Trabuco Hills before opening Sunset League play on March 30.
