WASH GIRLS: Caroline Mahony Signs With St. Mary's

December 17th, 2008

Mercer Island senior middie Caroline Mahony has signed a national letter of intent to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at St. Mary’s College.

Mahony has started for the Islanders since her freshman season, will be a captain on this year’s team, and was a first-team, All-State selection last season. She has played on several prestigious club teams, including Puget Sound Select, the Seattle Rainz and X-Team.

“Caroline will (have) an immediate impact on our program and has the vision, character and dedication that we are looking to build our program around,” St. Mary’s head coach Lauren Uhr said in a news release. “Her athleticism and field sense as an attacking midfielder will make her an instrumental part of our future success.”

Mahony comes from a family with a strong lacrosse tradition. Older brother Kevin Mahony was WSL’s Washington Boys Player of the Year in 2006, and older brother Greg Mahony plays at Yale University.

“The campus was incredible,” Caroline Mahony said in a news release. “My goal is to be a nurse, and St. Mary’s offers a very strong nursing program. I knew right away after I met with the coaches and team that this was meant to be. It was a great feeling.”
