SoCAL GIRLS: Jackie Candelaria Signs With Stanford

La Costa Canyon senior middie Jackie Candelaria has signed a national letter of intent to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Stanford University.

Candelaria, who helped lead the Mavericks to the CIF-San Diego Section title the last two seasons, said she picked Stanford over UC Berkeley. Candelaria is the only Southern Californian to sign with Stanford so far.

“I really liked the campus a lot, and it’s a really prestigious school,” Candelaria said. “It’s always been my dream since I was little to go there.”

Candelaria, who will be receiving a partial athletic scholarship, said she is excited to move on to the next level.

“Hopefully, I’ll do well,” she said. “I don’t have any expectations yet. I’m really excited for more competition and to play with girls who have played on the East Coast and have more experience. I’m just excited for a challenge.”
