Cherry Creek senior attackman Mike Beimford has signed a national letter of intent to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Ohio State University.

Beimford, who finished with 120 points last season on 52 goals and 68 assists, said he chose Ohio State over Vermont.

“I’m a big football fan, and Vermont doesn’t have a football team,” Beimford said. “And I thought Columbus was a much better city. I prefer the city atmosphere to the rural ski town in Vermont.”

Beimford also said that Ohio State’s Midwest location played a factor in his decision.

“I’m a big West Coast guy, and Ohio was the closest I could go without going a mile away to (Denver),” Beimford said. “I think it’s pretty sweet. It’s amazing how lacrosse has grown out here and in California and Texas.”
