MEN: Montana Names Ryan Hanavan New Head Coach

November 26th, 2008

The University of Montana has named Dr. Ryan Hanavan as the new head coach of its men’s lacrosse team.

Hanavan replaces Kevin Flynn, who led the Grizzlies to a 10-4 record in 2008.

A native of Orchard Park, N.Y., Hanavan was most recently the head coach at the University of Idaho the past two seasons. Hanavan is a Montana alum, having completed his undergraduate degree in 2001, and he holds a Ph. D. in entomology from Idaho.

“It’s great to be back in Missoula with such a talented program,” Hanavan said in a news release. “I feel like we have the pieces in place to compete on a national level, and I’m looking forward to that opportunity. I’m excited to hit the ground running.”

Flynn will stay on with the program as an assistant this season.

“We’re all very excited to have Ryan on board for next season, and I’m confident in his ability to lead this program to the next level,” Flynn said in a news release. “Ryan is really a tremendous addition to our team, and we’re glad to see him back in Missoula.”
