OMAHA, Neb. -- Millard West senior defenseman Jared Widseth has committed to play NCAA Division III lacrosse at Tri-State University in Angola, Ind., Tri-State Coach Bryan Poole said.
When Widseth takes the field with the Tri-State team in 2008, he will become the first known player from the state of Nebraska to play NCAA-sanctioned lacrosse. Tri-State is a new program that will field its first team next spring.
"I'm really excited to go play at Tri-State. It's really neat to be able to do this," Widseth said. "The reason I decided to go to Tri-State was to be able see more competition from around the Midwest and the East Coast. I have played some of the kids that I will be playing with, and I'm just really excited for next year."
Widseth has anchored the Wildcats defense for three years and has continued to shut down opponents throughout the 2007 season. In all but one game this season, Millard West has held opponents to three goals or less.
"We have very high expectations for him, as he will be a big contributor to our defense," Poole said. "We are very excited to have such a quality young student-athlete joining the Thunder lacrosse program for its inaugural season next year."
