MO HS: Mike Sennett Collapses, Dies Suddenly

April 28th, 2007

DeSmet Jesuit boys varsity lacrosse head coach and Missouri Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee Mike Sennett collapsed and died suddenly Saturday morning. He was 36.

Sennett, who played NCAA Division I lacrosse at the University of Notre Dame, was a Michigan native who helped start the lacrosse program at DeSmet Jesuit, Rockhurst Jesuit Coach Jay Coleman said. Sennett played high school lacrosse at Brother Rice.

"He was awesome," Coleman said of Sennett. "He lived for lacrosse."

Sennett and the DeSmet Jesuit team were in Culver, Ind., on Saturday, set to participate in the second day of the Culver Tournament. Sennett was sitting at breakfast with his team when he got up, collapsed and died on the spot, Coleman said.

Coleman said Sennett was physically fit, and the reason for his death remains a mystery. After his death, the team withdrew from the tournament and returned to Missouri, Coleman said.

"He was probably in the best shape he's been in since college," Coleman said. "The games were pretty much irrelevant after all this happened."
