MEN: Last-Second Goal Lifts Montana State Past Western Washington, 12-11

March 31st, 2007

Montana State senior middie Chris Kelley has a knack for scoring big goals. And he did it again Friday afternoon.

Kelley scored the game-winning goal with four seconds remaining to give Montana State a come-from-behind, 12-11 victory over Western Washington in a Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association non-league game.

Kelley, who also scored the game-winning goal in Montana State's double-overtime victory over Colorado School of Mines last week, capped a huge fourth-quarter rally with his second goal of the game. Western Washington led 11-7 in the fourth quarter before Montana State scored the game's final five goals.

With the score tied, 11-11, Kelley took a pass from sophomore middie Reed Milne shortly after a man-up advantage expired and went low, off-stick-side with a shot from 10 yards out for the winner.

"I'm trying to go out on a high note," Kelley said. "I'm not going to lie. It wouldn't happen without the passing that I get."

Sophomore middie Pat Gaydos finished with a team-high five points on two goals and three assists, Milne added three points on a goal and two assists and senior attackman Brian Hoy dished two assists for Montana State (4-1). Kelley, sophomore attackman Joe Lloyd and sophomore middie Ethan Vandermark all scored twice.

In a losing effort, John Healy scored five goals for Western Washington.
