Caddo Magnet senior attackman Walt Gaskins has committed to play NCAA Division III lacrosse at Hendrix College in Conway, Ark., the school announced Friday in a news release.

Gaskins, of Shreveport, is the first player to commit to the fledgling program, which begins play in the spring of 2008.

Gaskins has been a key part of Caddo Magnet's stunning turnaround this season. In 2006, Caddo Magnet won just one game. So far this season, Caddo Magnet is 8-3 and looks to be a contender in the Texas High School Lacrosse League North District Division II flight.

Gaskins is a two-sport star at Caddo Magnet, where he has played lacrosse for the three years and run cross country for two. In February, Gaskins helped lead the Mustangs to the championship game of the THSLL's annual pre-season “Lax’n on the Red Tournament” in Shreveport. Although the Mustangs fell in the championship game, Gaskins took home MVP honors at the attackman position. 

Upon his arrival at Hendrix, Gaskins and his Warrior teammates will be part of the first collegiate varsity lacrosse program in Arkansas history.
