LINCOLN, Neb. -- Freshmen middie Aaron Gillaspie scored three goals to lead unbeaten Nebraska to a 7-3 victory over visiting Dordt College in a Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference game Saturday afternoon.
Gillaspie anchored a balanced Huskers offense, as three other players contributed goals and five others contributed assists.
Nebraska (4-0) weathered sloppy play and a flurry of penalties to pull away in the second half and claim its fourth straight victory. In all, there were 18 penalties, including seven in the fourth quarter.
The victory marked two milestones for Nebraska. First, it is the first time in the history of the program that the Cornhuskers have won their first four games. Second, it was Nebraska's first-ever victory against the Sowers.
"This is a big conference victory for us," Nebraska head coach Nate Hoeckelman said. "We wanted to come and play hard against a conference rival like Dordt."
In a losing effort, senior middie Nathan DeGraaf scored a goal, and junior attackman Theodore Rispens added another to lead Dordt (0-1), which fell in its season opener.
"This was our first game of the year, and we're still trying to shake some of the rust off," DeGraaf said.
