LINCOLN, Neb. --
Sophomore middie Scott Moyer scored three goals and added an assist to lead Nebraska to a 7-4 victory over Cornell (Iowa) University on Saturday night in a Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference game.

Freshmen Aaron Gillaspie scored two goals and dished two assists, and freshmen attackman Chris Mack scored another goal to help the Huskers (2-0) win their second straight to start the season.

But it wasn't easy.

Cornell scored first, putting two goals in within the opening five minutes. Moyer and Gillaspie answered back with a goal apiece, but Cornell went ahead again, and led 4-3 at halftime. In the second half, the Huskers' defense took control of the game, denying Cornell any more goals. A strong fourth-quarter showing from Moyer, Gillaspie, and freshmen Chris Mack, who dodged through three players to put one in the back of the net, sealed the deal for Nebraska.

"After a slow and difficult first half, we decided to change some things up," said Nate Hoeckelman, Nebraska's new head coach. "We really started to play to our potential both offensively and defensively in the second half."

In a losing effort, senior attackman Nick Andrajack scored one goal, and freshman attackman Matt Smith added another for the Purple Haze (0-1).

Despite giving up the lead after halftime, Andrajack was pleased with his team's performance.

"This is our program's third year, and we've never won a game before, so for us to come out here and play like this against Nebraska is encouraging," Andrajack said. "I thought that both teams played great, and I'm just excited for this season."
