MINN HS: Osseo, M. Grove, Centennial Sanction Lax
February 9th, 2007
The boys lacrosse teams at Osseo High School, Maple Grove High School and Centennial High School have all been approved as varsity programs and will join the Minnesota State High School League this season, bringing the number of school-sanctioned boys teams in the state to 32.
Osseo, which advanced to the Minnesota Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association championship game last year, will automatically become a top contender.
"I think in the long run it's big," Osseo Coach Darren Nelson said. "This year, it's big for the seniors, and I'm glad we get to play High School League teams, because the competition will be a little better. It's not a huge deal for me personally, but it's big for the kids."
Maple Grove Coach Kevin Hokr said his program should get a big boost from the decision.
"It's great," Hokr said. "The players get to letter, which is big, and we'll get bussing. That's really important. Just having school support is a big deal."
