MINN HS: Blake Names Laura Mark New Head Coach

February 7th, 2007

The Blake School has named Laura Mark as the new head coach of its girls varsity lacrosse team.

Mark, 28, replaces Deb Wood, who led Blake to a 12-1-1 record and an appearance in the Minnesota state semifinals last season.

A native of Deerfield, Mass., Mark played two seasons of NCAA Division I lacrosse as a defender at the University of Virginia in 1999 and 2000. Mark also played four seasons of NCAA Division I field hockey at Virginia from 1997 to 2000, she said.

Mark most recently was the assistant varsity coach at Blake last season. In 2001, she was the head coach of the JV team at the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, and from 2001 to 2004 she coached club lacrosse in the New York metro area.

This will be her first varsity head coaching position.

"Deb has done an amazing job of building this program from the ground up," Mark said. "I'm just really looking forward to the opportunity to working with these girls and taking the team to the next level."
