KAN HS: Blue Valley North Boys Program to Fold

December 23rd, 2006

The Blue Valley North varsity boys lacrosse team will fold after six seasons, head coach Chris Schepmann announced Saturday.

The team, which drew players from three high schools -- Blue Valley, Blue Valley North and Blue Valley Northwest -- began competing in 2001. In 2006, the team started 0-4 before a large portion of the team quit, effectively ending the season.

Attempts to bring the team back have failed, according to Schepmann, who said he has coached the team since its inaugural season. Blue Valley North had been slated to play in the Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association's KC-KS Conference.

"It's disappointing," Schepmann said. "There was just a bunch of kids who didn't want to work and thought they could win without coming to practice. When they didn't win, they got discouraged and quit. There were some really good kids, but you can't field a team with six really good kids and 10 guys who don't want to play and don't want to work."
