NEV BOYS: Late Flurry Lifts Henderson, 22-16
March 16th, 2011
Henderson had five players score two goals or more and broke a 14-14 third-quarter tie with eight fourth-quarter goals en route to a 22-16 upset of No. 18 Centennial on Tuesday in a Southern Nevada Lacrosse Association Division I game.
Henderson head coach Paul Parasugo said that depth made the difference in a tight game.
“It’s always a battle against Centennial,” he said. “I am betting that we will see them two more times this year, and if you expect to win you better play your game for 48 minutes.”
Jet Harding led all scorers with nine points on seven goals and two assists while Brandon Knudson added five goals, Rudy Gerson scored four, Kieran Eissler scored three and Jacob Sigler had two goals and an assist. Miles Mercer chipped in a goal and four assists.
For Centennial (1-1), three players scored four goals, including Joey Mecham, who also had three assists. Harry Krueger and Justin Anderson scored four goals each while Blake Krowicki added two goals and four assists.
“Centennial has a couple of really dangerous weapons on offense — plus (defensemen Tyler) Zafutto and (Michael) Morse really take the fight to you,” said Parasugo. “So you have to battle back against them — I thought Jet Harding did a great job against one of the toughest defenders on the entire West Coast.”
Also for Henderson (5-1), Eissler picked up 15 ground balls and took most of his team’s face-offs.
“I thought our depth really spoke volumes,” said Parasugo. “It was a tight game for the first three quarters and (we) pulled away in the fourth. Midfielders like Rudy Gerson, Damon Goldhammer and Blake Day did all the little things and that put us over the top.”
