COL BOYS: Wheat Ridge Pounds Ponderosa in Opener, 17-4

A lot is expected of the Wheat Ridge boys varsity lacrosse team this season, and the Farmers certainly lived up to the hype in their opener.
Freshman attackman Pete Aplet registered a game-high six points on four goals and two assists to lead Wheat Ridge to a 17-4 victory over Ponderosa in a Colorado High School Activities Association game Monday afternoon.
Junior attackman Chris Roach scored a game-high five goals, junior middie Nick Ossello added five points on three goals and two assists and junior attackman Ryan O’Connor had five points on a goal and four assists to help the Farmers (1-0) roll.
Junior middie Andy Field scored twice, junior middie Sander Aplet had a goal and an assist and senior middie Brian Roach added a goal to round out the offense.
Defensively, senior goalie Koltin Fatzinger saved 10 shots.
Ponderosa fell to 1-2.
Wheat Ridge led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter, 9-3 at halftime and 14-4 going into the fourth quarter.
“We started off a little tight, but things loosened up as the game went on,” Wheat Ridge head coach Chris Knott said. “We’ve got a lot of things to work on to prepare for our next game, but we’ll take the ‘W.’”
