TEX GIRLS: Westwood Edges Cedar Park in 29-Goal Thriller
Senior middie Michaela Garrison scored the go-ahead goal with about two minutes remaining to lead unbeaten Westwood to a thrilling 15-14 victory over Cedar Park in a Texas Girls High School Lacrosse League Central District game Tuesday night.
Garrison scored her 10th goal of the night to put Westwood ahead to stay after Cedar Park had battled back to draw level.
Following Garrison’s goal, Westwood won the ensuing draw but possession changed several times in the final two minutes. However, Cedar Park could never get off a shot to send the game into overtime.
Senior attack Susan Killeavy added three points for Westwood, which improved to 3-0. Senior middie Olivia Hoang, junior middie Katelyn Kessler and junior attack Sarah Mann all added single goals.
Defensively, junior goalie Jaclyn Echavarria saved 10 shots.
Cedar Park lost its season opener.
The first half was played in heavy fog, and sloppy field conditions limited passing and led to few assisted goals. Westwood led 8-7 at halftime and did not trail in the second half, although Cedar Park twice tied the game during the final 25 minutes.
