WSL Releases Spring 2009 Boys Elite 25 Individual Player Rankings

WSL is proud to release its Spring 2009 Elite 25 Boys Individual Player Rankings.

This second Elite 25 comes after players were further evaluated at January’s Adrenaline Challenge, an event attended by top players from throughout the Western United States. Once again, selections have been made by an independent panel of coaches and respected members of the lacrosse community.

This will be the first of three WSL Elite 25 rankings for 2009. The next ranking will be released in late summer, and the final ranking of 2009 will be published in the late fall/early winter period.

Furthermore, WSL had added three sanctioned events in an attempt to get the best representation of all players in the West. Beginning with the next cycle, players who attend Texas 99, the University of Denver Pioneer Team Camp and the University of Notre Dame Team Camp will be seen by Elite 25 evaluators.

There are now nine WSL-sanctioned events in place for the Elite 25.

“Our goal is that the Elite 25 fairly and accurately identifies the top players in the West,” WSL Executive Editor Nathan Max said. “Concerns were raised after the first rankings were released. I have listened to those concerns, and I have personally acted to address them.

“I believe adding events in Texas, Colorado and the Midwest will go a long way toward making sure the Elite 25 will accurately reflect the best of the best. WSL’s goal is and has always been to give lacrosse players in the West more exposure. That is the objective of the Elite 25.”

Concept: Ranking of Top 25 players from each class in the West based on a evaluations done by an independent committee, which is a combination of college coaches, as well as Western lacrosse leaders. Evaluations will be conducted at WSL-sanctioned events throughout the year. The “West” shall be defined as the 24 states within the WSL coverage area, from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Sanctioned Events: Officially sanctioned WSL events are chosen because they have a demonstrated history of drawing a significant number of the region’s best players. Players must only attend two events to be ranked, however, the more events an individual attends, the more thoroughly evaluated that player will be. The following events in 2009 will be WSL Elite 25 sanctioned.

1. Adrenaline Challenge
2. Adrenaline Showcase
3. Adrenaline Shootout
4. Texas 99
5. University of Denver Pioneer Team Camp
6. University of Notre Dame Camp
7. West Coast Starz Summer Event
8. West Coast Starz Fall Event
9. Adrenaline High Rollers

Rankings: WSL’s Elite 25 Boys Individual Player Rankings will be released three times a year: In the fall/winter, spring and late summer.
