MEN: Unbeaten Iowa Stomps Memphis to Stay Perfect, 16-9

Sophomore attackman Mitch McElman scored a game-high seven goals to lead Iowa to a 16-9 victory over Memphis in an MCLA Division I game Saturday afternoon in St. Louis.
Freshman middie Jay Morgan added three goals, and junior attackman Alex de la Pena had three points on a goal and two assists to help the Hawkeyes (3-0) win their third straight to start the season.
Freshman middie Tom Plotkin and sophomore middie Nick Beideman each scored twice, sophomore middie John Foley dished a pair of assists and freshman middie Jake Fernandez had a goal to round out the offense for Iowa.
Defensively, freshman goalie Brandon Warshawsky saved 12 shots.
Memphis (2-3) had its two-game winning streak snapped.
Iowa continued to show its offensive might Saturday. The Hawkeyes have outscored their first three opponents, 52-19.
Against Memphis, Iowa rolled to a 10-5 halftime lead before comfortably cruising to the finish in the second half.
“I think the team played well,” Iowa head coach Casey Ervin said. “Things are coming together. I’m really happy about the hustle. There’s a lot of hustle and a lot of pride on this team.”
