KAN-MO BOYS: Trey Freeman Leads Olathe Past Vianney, 11-8

April 19th, 2009

Senior middie Trey Freeman dished four assists to lead Olathe to an 11-8 victory over St. John Vianney in a Kansas vs. Missouri interstate game Saturday.

Junior attackmen Logan Smith and Trevor Ecton, and senior attackman Dan Gallagher, all scored a co-team-high three goals to help Olathe (12-1) beat a Missouri Division I team for the first time in the history of the program.

Sophomore middie Brett Wilson dished a pair of assists, and sophomore middie Max Ash and senior middie Grant Jones each had a goal to round out the scoring for the Hawks, who have won six straight. Olathe’s only loss this season came against No. 24 Rockhurst Jesuit.

St. John Vianney (6-6) has lost four straight.

Olathe led 4-3 at the end of the first quarter, 7-5 at halftime and 10-7 going into the fourth quarter.

Ecton then scored with 10:27 remaining in regulation to push the Hawks’ lead to four goals and essentially seal it.

“It says a lot about how far the program has come,” Olathe head coach Joel Henning said. “The guys really put a lot into it and executed as well. We came out on the good side of the ball, so we’re happy about that.”
