SoCAL GIRLS: CIF-SDS Playoffs: TP Tops Scripps Ranch, 13-9
Senior middie Becky Trees registered a game-high six points on five goals and one assist to lead third-seeded Torrey Pines to a 13-9 victory over sixth-seeded Scripps Ranch in a CIF-San Diego Section quarterfinal Tuesday.
Junior attack Annelyse Eggold and senior attack Julia Colley each added a goal and an assist to help the Falcons (16-6) advance to the San Diego Section semifinals.
Torrey Pines will next face second-seeded Coronado on Thursday for the right to play for the CIF title. In the teams’ only meeting this season, the Islanders edged the Falcons, 10-8, on April 1.
“I’m really that we’ve got a second shot at Coronado,” Torrey Pines head coach Amanda Bourquin said. “It’s going to be a really tough game, but I think my team’s really amped to play them again.”
On Tuesday, sophomore middie Katie Trees dished a pair of assists, and six players scored single goals for Torrey Pines.
In a losing effort, senior Gina Holslag scored a team-high four goals for Scripps Ranch, which finished the season 14-5.
Torrey Pines led 6-4 at halftime and maintained its lead throughout the final 25 minutes.
“I feel good about the way we played,” Bourquin said. “We came out and were a little slow, but we found our rhythm eventually. It’s huge when you have nine different players netting goals for you.”
