EAGLE, Idaho --
Senior middie Alex Williams and senior attackman Mitch Hawk each registered co-game-high four points on two goals and two assists to lead Timberline to a 14-4 victory over Lake City in the second-annual Idaho state championship game Saturday afternoon at Eagle High School.

Freshman attackman Andrew Rusin added three goals, and freshman attackman Nash Cantrell, junior middie Cody Cantrell and sophomore middie Mason Klein each added two points on a goal and an assist to help the Wolves (21-4) win their first state championship.

“It's a bitter-sweet feeling,” Williams said. “We fulfilled our goal to be the best. We took nothing for granted, and we worked hard to finish this way. I love playing with these guys, and I'll miss them.”

Timberline finished the season with 17 straight wins and went 19-0 against Idaho competition.

Junior middie Panos Panayiotou, sophomore middie Levi Reynolds and senior defenseman James Zeimantz all scored once for Timberline.

“It's a nice way to end our season,” Hawk said. “Overall, I wish that it had been more competitive though. In general, the play this year against us was pretty sub-par.”

In defeat, senior attackman Adam Fenenbock finished with a team-high three points on two goals and an assist, and junior middie Adam Marfice scored two goals for the Timberwolves. Lake City (11-4) had its eight-game winning streak snapped and fell in the state-title game for the second straight season.

“I would love to see the day when I have 20 warriors on my roster like Timberline's,” Lake City head coach Dwight Emmons said. “They've got a great program and several years on us. This has been a good season for us, and we're still working toward a program like theirs.”

Timberline opened the game with a seven-goal scoring run that extended into the second quarter. Lake City answered with 5:33 remaining in the first half when Marfice scored on a man-up advantage, but Timberline added three more goals in the second quarter to take a commanding 10-1 halftime lead.

“I'm glad this is how we ended our season,” Timberline head coach Tom Blanchard said. “We'll miss our seniors, but next year we're coming back strong. We've got a young group of guys that are going to be around for the years to come. We're going to come back to win.”
