ID BOYS: TVLL Playoffs: Timberline Escapes Mountain View
May 19th, 2010
Sophomore attackman Nash Cantrell scored a game-high four goals to lead second-seeded Timberline to a 9-7 victory over seventh-seeded Mountain View in a Treasure Valley Lacrosse League quarterfinal Tuesday.
Senior middie Cody Cantrell added three goals to help the Wolves (13-6) advance to Thursday’s league semifinals. Timberline will next face third-seeded Centennial, which beat sixth-seeded Bishop Kelly, 10-5.
In the teams’ only regular-season meeting, Centennial beat Timberline, 10-9, on April 27.
On Tuesday, sophomore attackman Andrew Rusin and senior middie Panos Panayiotou each scored once to round out the offense for Timberline.
Defensively, sophomore goalie Keven Brown saved 12 shots.
In defeat, Trystan Chambers scored three goals, and Andy Epperson had three points on a goal and two assists for Mountain View, which finished the season 7-6.
Timberline led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, Mountain View led 4-3 at halftime and the game was tied, 6-6, at the end of the third quarter.
But facing the prospect of an upset and early exit from the state playoffs, the defending state champs brought it in the fourth quarter. Cody Cantrell scored the go-ahead goal to put the Wolves ahead to stay with 9:51 remaining in regulation, and Panayiotou made it 8-6 with 5:21 to play.
Nash Cantrell added an insurance goal to give Timberline a 9-6 lead with 4:35 to play, and Mountain View didn’t pull back within two until the dying seconds.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game going in,” Timberline head coach Tom Blanchard said. “We’re just glad we got the victory, we’re moving on and we’ll have a chance to redeem ourselves against Centennial.”
