Lacrosse enthusiasts and those new to the sport won’t want to miss 2008’s top two Texas lacrosse teams battle The Woodlands’ varsity lacrosse team the weekend of March 6 and 7 at The Woodlands. Dubbed “The Weekend of Champions,” the Highlanders will play:

· Fri., March 6 at 7 p.m. against No. 16 Episcopal School of Dallas at The Woodlands High School

· Sat., March 7 at 1 p.m. against No. 3 Highland Park at Woodforest Bank Stadium

As the 2008 Texas High School Lacrosse League South District champions, The Woodlands will match up against last season’s top two Texas varsity teams. Highland Park won the THSLL Division I title, beating Dallas Episcopal in the championship game.

“We are excited about the opportunity to play the defending state champions, Highland Park, here in the Woodlands at Woodforest Stadium,” Highlanders Coach Dave Seale said. “Our team has started the season very well; the guys have been working hard since the fall. The sport continues to grow in The Woodlands, and if you have never seen a game this is a great chance to see two quality teams play the Highlanders in your own backyard.”

The game against Highland Park on Saturday will be the first of what the team hopes to be others played at the new Woodforest Bank Stadium, which has been re-lined for official lacrosse play on Saturday.

Friday night’s game is free of charge to everyone. At Saturday’s game, tickets for adults are $5 at the gate and free for children, students with ID and Woodlands lacrosse value card holders.
