TEX GIRLS: Taylor Thornton Commits to Northwestern

Ask Texas girls lacrosse coaches about the top talent in the state, and they invariably name Hockaday School’s Taylor Thornton. So it should be no surprise that Texas’ best player will continue her career at the nation’s best NCAAA Division I program.

Thornton, WSL’s 2008 Texas Girls Player of the Year, has committed to play for four-time defending NCAA Division I national champion Northwestern University.

Before she goes, Thornton will attempt to guide Hockaday to a second straight Texas Girls High School Lacrosse League title. In 2008, Thornton scored 48 goals, dished five assists and picked up 46 ground balls.

Last season, thanks in large part to Thornton, Hockaday became the first team from outside the Houston area to ever win the TGHSLL Division I state title.

“She was a dominant midfield player, offensively and defensively,” former Hockaday head coach Patty Wick said.
