TEX BOYS: Taylor Floyd Commits to Virginia Military Institute

October 30th, 2009

Houston Episcopal senior defenseman/long-stick middie Taylor Floyd has committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at the Virginia Military Institute.

Floyd said he also considered Southwestern, Alabama, Texas Tech and Texas A&M before he settled on the Lexington-based institution that is the nation’s oldest state-supported military college.

“I like the military background of VMI and all the traditions they have,” Floyd said. “I feel like the school will be a good fit for me, lacrosse-related and just regular school-related.”

Floyd is one of seven players from the Lone Star State to have already committed to play lacrosse at the NCAA Division I level for the 2011 season.

“I think it’s going to be a tough transition to make, but if I work hard at it, I think I’ll be able to do it,” Floyd said. “I wanted to go to a school where I could play. I didn’t want to go to a school in the north and sit on the bench, and the coach says he thinks I could play, from what he’s seen.”
