Junior attackman Ben Dill registered four points on two goals and two assists to lead Sunset to a 7-6 victory over Tigard in an Oregon High School Lacrosse Association Metro Conference game Tuesday night.
Senior middie Jeff Calderwood added a pair of goals, and sophomore middie Kyler Bruno had a goal an assist to help the Apollos (15-1, 12-0 Metro Conference) finish the regular season on a nine-game winning streak.
Senior attackman Colin Spiedel and sophomore attackman Curtis Eschman each had a goal to round out the scoring for Sunset. The Apollos’ only loss this season came against No. 8 Oregon Episcopal School.
“The team played well,” Sunset assistant coach Martin Wright said. “We played together. It was senior night, so we gave a lot of time to the seniors.”
Defensively, Wright gave props to junior long-stick middie Cory Guerrant and junior defenseman Jackson Skaggs.
Tigard (14-4, 8-4) fared much better than in the teams’ first meeting. On April 28, Sunset routed the Tigers, 14-2.
Sunset will now have a week break before opening the playoffs next Wednesday, May 27. The Apollos will face the winner of a first-round game between Wilson and Churchill in the second round.
“We’re very excited for the playoffs,” Wright said. “Now it’s time for impeccable preparation for our destiny.”
