Junior attackman Ben Dill scored a game-high four goals to lead Sunset to a 14-3 victory over Churchill in an Oregon High School Lacrosse Association second-round playoff game Wednesday night.
Senior attackman Scott Barker added four points on two goals and two assists, senior middie Jeff Calderwood scored three goals and sophomore attackman Curtis Eschman had a goal and two assists to help the Apollos (16-1) win their 10th straight.
With the victory, Sunset advanced to the state quarterfinals and will host West Linn on Friday, May 29.
“It’s definitely going to be one of our toughest games of the year,” Dill said. “If we come out like we did today, we should do pretty well.”
On Wednesday, sophomore middie Kyler Bruno and junior middie K.J. Paik each added a pair of goals to round out the scoring for Sunset.
Defensively, junior goalie Jack Regan saved nine shots.
Churchill finished the season 15-4 and had its seven-game winning streak snapped.
Sunset dominated from the start. The Apollos led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, 10-0 at halftime and 11-1 going into the final 12 minutes.
“We played really well,” Dill said. “We came out and moved the ball around. We had some tough games at the end of the season, and this is the first time in a while we’ve played really well and disciplined.”
