TEX BOYS: Strake Jesuit Upsets No. 13 Dallas Episcopal in 2OT
March 6th, 2010
Senior attackman Patrick O’Meara scored the game-winning goal with 2:44 remaining in double-overtime to give Strake Jesuit an 11-10 upset victory over Dallas Episcopal in a Texas High School Lacrosse League Division I game Saturday afternoon in Dallas.
O’Meara scored his co-game-high fourth goal of the day on a high, stick-side shot from about 12 yards. On its way into the cage, the ball hit the goalie’s stick and somehow found its way in to give Strake Jesuit one of its most significant regular-season wins in program history.
Senior attackman Chris Duin also scored four goals for Strake Jesuit (5-2), which snapped a two-game losing streak and bounced back from losses to No. 3 St. Mark’s and Austin.
“I was proud of the guys, especially after a tough one last night,” Strake Jesuit head coach Mike Block said. “We came out real well and had a lot of intensity.”
In defeat, junior attackman Phil Wagley finished with five points on two goals and three assists, junior middie James Collins scored three goals and junior attackman Angus Klamer had three points on two goals and an assist for Dallas Episcopal (4-1), which had its season-opening, four-game winning streak snapped.
Strake Jesuit led 6-3 at the end of the first quarter and 7-4 at halftime before Dallas Episcopal came back to take a 9-8 lead going into the fourth quarter.
“We came out a little light on defense in the first half and played a much better second half,” Dallas Episcopal head coach Kevin Barnicle said. “I was proud of the way our boys came back.”
