TEX BOYS: Stony Point Wins Second Central District DII Title

May 3rd, 2010

Senior middie Brendan Schindel registered a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists to lead Stony Point to a 12-7 victory over Lake Travis in the Texas High School Lacrosse League Central District Division II championship game Sunday afternoon.

Junior middie Brad Johnson added four points on two goals and two assists to help the Tigers (15-2) win their second straight Central District title. Stony Point will enter next week’s Division II semifinals on an 11-game winning streak.

“We worked really hard for it this season,” Stony Point head coach Lewis Wright said. “We’ve had to change things around a bit recently because of injuries, and I think we’ve adapted pretty well to all the changes.”

Senior middies Jacob Medina and Bud Pelkey each scored twice, and junior attackman Austin Fox had a goal to round out the offense for Stony Point.

In the cage, senior goalie Matt Peterson saved 14 shots.

Lake Travis, which was making its first appearance in a district championship game, finished its season 8-4.

Stony Point led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter, 6-1 at halftime and 8-5 at the end of the third quarter.

The Tigers then reeled off four straight goals to start the fourth quarter to take their biggest lead of the game at 12-5.

“We had our good moments, we had our bad moments,” Wright said. “All in all, I think we played pretty well. Lake Travis came out pumped up and ready to play.”
