SoCAL BOYS: Steven Bogert Commits to Hofstra University
La Costa Canyon rising senior Steven Bogert has verbally committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Hofstra University.
Bogert, a long-stick middie and close defenseman, said he also considered Ohio State, Towson, Gettysburg and Lynchburg before settling on the Hempstead, N.Y.-based school. Bogert is the No. 4 junior in the WSL Elite 25 Individual Player Rankings.
“Hofstra is right in the heart of everything,” Bogert said. “They have good alumni, it’s a good school and they have a great coach. Overall, it was exactly the right fit.”
Bogert plays his club lacrosse for the West Coast Starz and San Diego Shredderz, but he said he came across Hofstra during La Costa Canyon’s 2008 road trip to New York.
“I think I can play at the next level,” Bogert said. “I’m playing football right now, so that will keep me in shape in the offseason. I plan on doing some running and conditioning and putting on some weight.”
