Former standout Stefani Laub has been named the new girls varsity head coach at Horizon High School, team manager Julie Martin confirmed Thursday night.

Laub, a two-time WSL Arizona Girls Player of the Year, takes over for Floyd Samons, who led the school to three straight state championships from 2006 to 2008. Laub played and stared on all three of those state-title winning teams and took home the Player of the Year award in 2006 and 2008.

Samons will stay on with the program as an assistant coach, Martin said. She said that Samons had to step down from the head coaching job because of work commitments.

In other Arizona girls lacrosse news, former Red Mountain and Dobson head coach Andrew Kay has taken over for Brittany Bingold at Gilbert. Kay will be the third head coach in three seasons at Gilbert. Dobson’s team has folded. Bingold has taken over the Division II team at Chaparral.

Megan Madigan has stepped down after one season at Xavier, and she will be replaced by Caitlin Bebout. At Corona del Sol, Cliff Prausa has taken over on an interim basis while a replacement can be found for Emily Miller, who has resigned.

In Division II, Tara Tibbott and Claire Hubbard have resigned at Desert Vista. Former Thunder players Michelle Quach and Grace Kim have taken over on an interim basis until a full-time head coach can be found.
