LOU BOYS: St. Thomas More Routs Archbishop Rummel, 14-1
Make it three for three for the St. Thomas More lacrosse team.
Junior attackman Saban Sellers scored a game-high three goals to lead the unbeaten Cougas to a 14-1 victory over Archbishop Rummel in a Louisiana High School Lacrosse League game Saturday afternoon in Lafayette.
Junior middies David Escott and Louis Bernard each added a pair of goals to help St. Thomas More (3-0) win its third straight to start the season.
Senior middie Dylan Moorman and junior attackman Michael Leonpacher each dished a pair of assists, and seven players had a goal to round out the scoring for the Cougars.
Archbishop Rummel (0-2) lost its second straight. Earlier in the day, Archbishop Rummel fell, 13-8, to Lafayette.
St. Thomas More got off to a quick start, rolling to a 6-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Cougars led 10-0 at halftime and 12-1 at the end of the third quarter.
“I felt we did well,” St. Thomas head coach Mike Guidroz said. “It’s very early, and it’s a really long season, but we are working on getting better from one game to the next. I felt like we did a little of that yesterday and a little more of that today, so I’m pleased with that.”
St. Thomas More opened the season with a 9-7 victory over Ocean Springs last Saturday, and the Cougars outscored Lafayette and Archbishop Rummel by a combined 30-5 this weekend.
“Each game has been a little bit better than the game before,” Guidroz added. “We’ve got a lot ahead of us though.”
