March 8th, 2010
Sophomore middie Alessandra Quaroni scored the go-ahead goal in the first half of non-sudden-death overtime to give St. Andrew’s Episcopal an 11-10 victory over Memorial in a Texas Girls High School Lacrosse League Division I game Sunday afternoon.
Quaroni scored her third of the game with 1:24 remaining in the first of two three-minute halves, and the Crusaders (4-2) held on to the one-goal lead for more than four minutes to snap a two-game losing streak.
Junior attack Margaret Heck and junior middie Katherine Stegmann each finished with a co-team-high five points to lead St. Andrew’s. Heck scored four goals and added one assist, and Stegmann had three goals and two assists.
Junior attack Jackie Graves had a goal to round out the offense.
In defeat, junior attack Emily Glidden scored a game-high six goals for Memorial (4-1), which had its four-game winning streak snapped. Memorial beat Westlake in its other game Sunday.
St. Andrew’s led 5-4 at halftime, and the game was tied, 10-10, at the end of regulation.
“It was a hard-fought win,” St. Andrew’s head coach Laura Longoria said. “We came out with a lot of intensity. We played five games in seven days, so it’s nice to get out with a win over one of the top teams in the state.”
