Mercer Island senior middie Spencer Tierney has committed to play NCAA Division III lacrosse at Oberlin College.

Tierney said he also considered Tufts, Colorado College, Santa Clara and Washington before setting on the Ohio-based school.

“Other than Tufts, it was the best school I could get into, and academics are really important to me,” Tierney said. “Also, I was guaranteed a lot of playing time at Oberlin, and I didn’t want to sit on the bench for four years.”

Tierney added that he believes he can be successful at the next level.

“I think it’s going to go pretty well, considering I already play with a lot of really good guys,” he said. “I need to hit the weights, hit the wall and run a lot.”
