MEN: Southern Methodist Downs Oklahoma in LSA Opener, 11-6

February 7th, 2009

Junior attackman Tolar Hamblen registered a game-high four points on three goals and an assist to lead Southern Methodist University to an 11-6 victory over Oklahoma in an MCLA Division I game Friday night.

Junior attackman Colin Ward added three points on two goals and an assist to help SMU (2-0) win its second straight in its Lone Star Alliance Division I opener. Sophomore attackman Anders Pedersen and junior middie Wil Danielson each scored twice for the Mustangs.

In a losing effort, Jason Fry scored a team-high three goals for Oklahoma (2-1), which had its two-game winning streak snapped.

SMU led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter, 6-2 at halftime and 9-4 going into the fourth quarter.

“I thought we played really well,” SMU head coach Alex Poole said. “It was a game of runs. We just ended up being on a run when the game ended. I was happy with the time of possession and our patience on offense.”
