December 23rd, 2009
South Gate High School has named Mike Delabar as the new head coach of the school’s boys varsity lacrosse team.
Delabar takes over a program that is in its second season of existence. In its first year, South Gate went 2-8 in 2009, with both wins coming over winless Jordan. South Gate finished fifth in the six team CIF-Los Angeles City Section last season.
Delabar most recently coached three seasons at Beverly Hills High School, where he was the JV’s head coach, he said. He is currently coaching the middle school team at Thousand Oaks, and will continue to do so, he said. He has also coached at Harvard-Westlake, Windward School and Malibu.
As a player, Delabar played four seasons of NCAA Division II lacrosse as a middie at Catawba College, where he was a team captain as a junior and senior. As a senior, Delabar was selected as an honorable-mention, USILA Division II All-American in 2002.
