Junior attackman Pat McGannon registered a game-high four points on two goals and two assists to lead Shawnee Mission East to a 10-6 victory over Blue Valley West in a Lacrosse Association of Kansas game Thursday night.

Junior middie Jack Esberg scored a game-high three goals, senior attackman Clancy Merrill added three points on two goals and one assist and sophomore attackman Tom Loudon scored twice to help the Lancers (2-0) win their second straight to start the season.

Senior middie Max Sweet had a goal to round out the offense for Shawnee Mission East.

Defensively, senior goalie Danny Thompson saved seven shots.

Blue Valley West (0-1) lost its season opener.

The game was tied, 1-1, at the end of the first quarter and 3-3 at halftime before Shawnee Mission East took control in the second half. The Lancers used a five-goal third quarter to take an 8-5 lead and held a comfortable advantage throughout the final 12 minutes.

“It was really positive,” Shawnee Mission East head coach Alex Houlton said. “”We showed a lot of maturity.”
