NorCAL BOYS: Serious Injury Stops California-Las Lomas Game
March 17th, 2010
Tuesday night’s Las Lomas-California boys varsity lacrosse game was stopped early in the fourth quarter after California standout senior attackman James Torrey suffered a serious head injury, but he was released from the hospital late Tuesday night and was sleeping in his bed Wednesday morning, Grizzlies head coach John Britton said.
Torrey suffered a concussion after he incurred a terrifying hit early in the fourth quarter. He laid on the ground for about a half-hour while paramedics immobilized him until he was finally wheeled off the field on a stretcher, Britton said.
Torrey was taken by ambulance to San Ramon Regional Medical Center in San Ramon, where he underwent tests. He was later released.
“Our team is anxious and hopeful that James will be OK,” Britton said.
At the time of the injury, the score was tied, 8-8, and Britton said early Wednesday morning that the game will be declared a draw.
“Both teams concurred the injury concern took precedence over the continuation of the game,” Britton said.
