AS: Second-Half Surge Lifts Utah Starz Past Austin ATX, 10-3

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Attackman Chris Severson scored a game-high four goals to lead the Utah Starz to a 10-3 victory over Austin ATX in an Adrenaline High School Shootout South Swell Group first-round game Saturday afternoon at Sonoma State University.

Attackman Tyler Grogg added four points, all in the second half, on two goals and two assists to help Utah (4-0) stay unbeaten in pool play. Middie Luke Graney dished three assists, attackman Evan Alger had a goal and an assist and middie Cole Fox finished with two assists for Utah.

Attackman Josh McNall, middie Alex Day and middie Mitchell Hatch all scored once to round out the offense.

In defeat, middies Austin Stewart, Derek Sudderth and Drew Toney all scored once for Austin, which fell to 1-3.

Utah led 4-3 at halftime before finished the game on a decisive six-goal run over the final 25 minutes.

Day scored in the opening minute of the second half to put the Starz ahead, 5-3. Grogg completed the run when he scored off a feed from Graney with a little more than a minute remaining.

“We’ve just been hanging out a lot outside of the games, and that’s been helping a ton to create some team chemistry,” Severson said. “It just means we work better together, we trust each other more with the ball and we’re not afraid to trust the other guy with our game.”
