July 24th, 2010
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Attackman Steve Caswell registered a game-high five points on three goals and two assists to lead the two-time defending champion Saskatoon Scorpions to a 13-4 victory over Seattle Starz Green in an Adrenaline High School Shootout Warrior Group first-round game Saturday morning at Sonoma State University.
Attackman Ward Spencer added four points on a goal and three assists, and attackmen Adam Saunders and Brad Schnitzler each scored three goals to help the Scorpions (3-0) take over sole possession of first place in the group.
Saskatoon has now won 21 consecutive games at the Adrenaline High School Shootout, which is the second division of Adrenaline events.
Middie Jon Ronn scored twice and middie Jaydon Nystuen had a goal to round out the scoring for the Scorpions.
Defensively, goalie Liam Mulligan saved eight shots.
In defeat, middie Brandon Todd scored twice, and middies Carl Barnes and Robert Abbott each had a goal for Seattle (2-1), which fell into a second-place tie with Orange County-based 4 Leaf Lacrosse Club in the group standings. The top two teams from each group and the two best third-place teams will advance to Sunday’s quarterfinals.
Saskatoon got off to another quick start, scoring five unanswered goals to take a 5-0 lead during the opening 15 minutes. It was 6-2 at halftime, and the Scorpions extended their lead to 12-3 when Caswell scored unassisted with about three minutes remaining.
“We’re expecting big things out here, because we’ve won the last two years,” Caswell said. “We had a little bit of a lapse in the second game. We weren’t really happy with our performance, so we knew we had to come out here and play well. I think we played well today. It was fun.”
