NorCAL BOYS: San Ramon Valley Edges Danville Monte Vista

Attackman Josh Redhair scored a team-high four goals to lead San Ramon Valley to an 11-10 victory over Danville Monte Vista in a CIF-North Coast Section East Bay Athletic League game Friday night.

Michael Tagliaferri added three goals, Ross Rudow had three points on a goal and two assists and Patrick Worstell and Dylan Gonsalves each finished with a goal and an assist to help San Ramon Valley (8-6, 5-3 EBAL) win for the second time in its last three games.

Chase Miller had a goal, which stood up to be the game-winner, to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Goalie Michael Schleicher saved 11 shots.

In a losing effort, junior attackman Ryan Lieber finished with a game-high five points on four goals and an assist, and senior attackman Mitch Stein had a pair of goals for Monte Vista (8-5, 5-3), which had its two-game winning streak snapped.

Junior middie Cody Soberanes, sophomore attackman Jarrod Welker, senior middie Matt O’Brien and sophomore middie Jarrett Hassfeld all had single goals.

Defensively, senior goalie Trevor Moriarty saved 13 shots.

Monte Vista led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, the game was tied, 5-5, at halftime and San Ramon Valley led 8-5 going into the fourth quarter.

The Wolves extended their lead to 11-6 when Miller scored with 7:56 to play in regulation, but the Mustangs rallied to make a game of it. Monte Vista scored four goals over the next 4:14, a run capped by Welker, who scored with 3:42 to play to make it, 11-10.

But Monte Vista could not get the equalizer. Its final shot came with two seconds remaining, but sophomore attackman Casey Hock’s effort sailed inches wide.
