AS: Ryan Hanners Leads Vegas Elite Past Orange County Kings

July 17th, 2009

Attackman Ryan Hanners scored a game-high four goals to lead the Vegas Elite Starz to a decisive 11-3 victory over the Orange County Kings in an Adrenaline Shootout, Adrenaline Division first-round game Friday afternoon at Sonoma State University.

Middie Eric Jones added a co-game-high four points on a goal and three assists, middie Jet Harding scored two goals and dished an assist and middie Brandon Edgell finished with a goal and two assists to help Las Vegas (3-1) win its third straight.

Attackman Chris Forte also had a multiple-point effort, registering a goal and an assist, and Joey Bustamante and Conner White each scored once. White’s goal was a behind-the-back finish.

In defeat, attackman Christopher Snarr, attackman Blake Heidrich and attack-middie Elliot Freerks all scored once for Orange County (2-2), which is in a four-way tie for sixth place in the 12-team division.

Las Vegas started the game on a five-goal run, which was capped when Jones scored his only goal of the game, unassisted, with 3:30 to play in the first half. Vegas then started the second half with a 6-1 run to take its largest lead of the game, 11-2.

Forte completed that run when he scored with six minutes to play.

With the victory, Las Vegas moved into a second-place tie with the Arizona Starz (3-1). Both teams trail the unbeaten San Diego Tropics (4-0) by one game. Vegas opened the tournament with a 9-7 loss to the Tropics.

“I think we’re going to come back stronger,” Hanners said. “In the first game against the Tropics, we started to come back in the second half. If we play like that the whole game, I think we can beat them.”
