TEX BOYS: Ross Gillum Commits to Cornell

Plano senior attackman Ross Gillum has committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Cornell University.

Gillum said he also considered Harvard, Notre Dame, Colgate and Denver but chose the Ithaca, N.Y.-based Ivy League school because he felt it was the right fit.

“I just really admire the coaches and what they were doing there,” Gillum said. “All the guys were really close, and it seemed like a tight-knit team.”

Gillum will be heading to a program where his freshman-year varsity coached played, he said. Former Plano head coach Chris Braceland also played at Cornell.

“It’s an honor to follow his lead and be another person from Texas to go on to play Division I lacrosse,” Gillum said. “Hopefully, I’ll do pretty well. I’m going to work really hard this season, and this summer I’m going to work everyday so that I can contribute to the team.”
