MO BOYS: MSLA DI Semis: Rockhurst Jesuit Rolls Past DeSmet

May 22nd, 2009

Senior attackman Jack Faerber registered a game-high six points on five goals and one assist to lead top-seeded Rockhurst Jesuit to a 14-5 victory over fifth-seeded DeSmet Jesuit in a Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association Division I semifinal Thursday at the Anheuser Busch Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.

Senior middie David Herring added five points on two goals and three assists to help the Hawklets (18-6) advance to the state championship game for the fourth straight season. Rockhurst Jesuit will be going for its third title in the last four years and fourth overall.

The Hawklets will next face the winner of Thursday’s SLUH-Christian Brothers semifinal. The Missouri Division I state-title game will be played at the Anheuser Busch Soccer Park on Saturday, May 23, at 1 p.m., CDT.

“Our guys are ready to play,” Rockhurst Jesuit head coach Jay Coleman said.

On Thursday, senior attackman Brendan Surface added four points on a goal and three assists, junior middie Colin McKay scored three goals and senior attackman William Tilson scored twice. Senior attackman Joey Waldemeyer had a goal to round out the offense.

DeSmet Jesuit finished the season 13-8.

DeSmet Jesuit started strong, taking a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. But it was all Rockhurst from there. The Hawklets reeled off the final six goals of the first half to take an 8-4 lead and extended their advantage to 11-5 by the end of the third quarter.

“At the end of the first quarter, we just kind of turned it on,” Coleman said. “We played awesome. It was probably some of the best lacrosse we played all year.”
