SoCAL HS: Rob Alarcon Fired After 'Sex Crimes' Arrest

January 8th, 2010

Mt. Carmel girls varsity lacrosse coach Rob Alarcon has been fired one day after being arrested on suspicion of what police are calling, “sex crimes,” according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Alarcon, 35, was arrested Wednesday by San Diego police for luring a minor for a sexual offense and sending harmful material to a minor with intent to seduce, San Diego sex crimes Lt. Rick O’Hanlon told the Union-Tribune. On Thursday morning, he was fired as Mt. Carmel’s girls lacrosse coach.

“As always, the safety of our students is paramount, and we will continue to be diligent about protecting all students,” Mt. Carmel principal Tom McCoy told the Union-Tribune on Thursday.

Alarcon is accused of sending inappropriate text messages with sexual content to a female student at Del Norte High School, where he is an assistant coach for the girls freshman soccer team. The student informed school officials on Wednesday, police were immediately notified and Alarcon was arrested at the school.

Alarcon, who also coaches girls youth club soccer for the PQ Premier Club in the Rancho Penasquitos area, was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail at the downtown San Diego jail. He has been fired from activities within the Poway Unified School District, Sharon Raffer said, according to the North County Times.

Alarcon is the second lacrosse coach from northern San Diego County to be arrested in the last year. Last May, Westview boys lacrosse coach Edward Jeziorski was busted for selling cocaine to an undercover police officer. Jeziorski later pleaded guilty.
