Faith Lutheran boys varsity head coach Richard Fiore has stepped down after three seasons with the Las Vegas-based school.

Fiore, 50, led the Crusaders to the Las Vegas Lacrosse League championship game in 2007 and 2008. Fiore’s son, Madison, is now a sophomore at the University of Maryland and is the first Las Vegas native to score a goal in a men’s NCAA Division I game.

“My objective was really to get the program established, and after Madison’s senior year I contemplated resigning and talked it over with the school,” Fiore said. “However, I felt it prudent, since we had a young team, that I wanted to help as much as I could for one more year.”

A replacement has not yet been named.

Fiore said he is currently assisting in the production of “Crooked Arrows,” a lacrosse movie that starts filming this fall. He said he does not intend to coach in 2010, but he will eventually return to the sideline.

“I want to start making more of Madison’s games at the University of Maryland and visit my daughter, who is going to be a freshman at the University of San Diego,” Fiore said. “I do plan on coaching again, most likely on the collegiate level.”
