COL BOYS: Regis Jesuit Junior Rhody Heller Commits to Virginia
February 9th, 2010
Regis Jesuit junior goalie Rhody Heller has committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at the University of Virginia.
Heller said he also considered Georgetown, Syracuse, Cornell, Princeton and Notre Dame before he settled on the Charlottesville-based school.
“I really liked the campus,” Heller said. “It was the best weather out of all of them, it was the right size for me, I liked the players and the coaches and they have good academics. They have a good business program, and I want to maybe pursue business, and they have a good lacrosse team.”
Heller is one of two Regis Jesuit juniors to commit to Virginia. He will join long-stick middie Tanner Ottenbreit, and Heller said that having a friend going to college with him played a part in his decision.
“We’ve been playing together since seventh grade,” Heller said. “It definitely helps knowing someone who you’re going to spend four years of your life with.”
Heller added that he is amped to take his game to the next level, and he plans to do whatever is necessary to be successful.
“I’m excited for it,” he said. “This past summer, I got to play against some top competition, and I really like it getting to play against the best of the best. I’m going to do everything I need to do to prepare myself.”
