ORE BOYS: OHSLA Playoffs: Portland Jesuit Upends Sheldon

May 28th, 2009

Senior attackman Max Krieger registered a game-high six points on two goals and four assists to lead Portland Jesuit to a 13-7 victory over Sheldon in an Oregon High School Lacrosse Association second-round playoff game Wednesday.

Junior attackman Matt Welch added four goals to help the Crusaders (13-4) advance to the state quarterfinals.

Portland Jesuit will next face the winner of Wednesday night’s Lake Oswego-Century game on Friday, May 29.

On Wednesday, senior middie Henry Bishop and attackman Joe Coleman each finished with three points on two goals and an assist for the Crusaders.

In defeat, junior middie Tyler Buchanan and junior attackman Keaton Lovendahl each scored twice, and junior middie Christian Frey had a goal and an assist for Sheldon (14-3), which had its 14-game winning streak snapped.

Portland Jesuit led 5-2 at the end of the first quarter, 9-3 at halftime and 13-3 at the end of the third quarter before Sheldon came back to score the game’s final four goals in the last 12 minutes.

“We got beat by a very good team who controlled the ball in the middle of the field, was faster and had better sticks,” Sheldon head coach Ike Sanderson said. “That’s sad, but that’s the truth.”
