AZ GIRLS: Pohle Sisters Lead No. 23 Chaparral Past Pinnacle

March 2nd, 2010

Senior middie Madison Pohle registered a game-high eight points on five goals and three assists to lead No. 23 Chaparral to a 20-10 victory over Pinnacle in an Arizona Girls Lacrosse Association Division I game Monday afternoon.

Junior middie Makenna Pohle added six points on five goals and one assist, senior middie Roxy Smith had four points on two goals and two assists and senior middie Laura Eckhardt scored three goals to help the Firebirds (3-0) win their third straight to start the season.

Freshman attack Scarlett Sulliman finished with three points on two goals and one assist, and senior defender Catherine Daem, junior attack Alex Sarussi and freshman attack Kate Pederson all had a goal apiece to round out the scoring.

The win, however, may prove costly in the short term for Chaparral, because Eckhardt sprained her ankle and will likely be out a couple weeks.

In defeat, senior middie Lauren Littleton scored a team-high four goals for defending state champion Pinnacle (0-1), which lost its season opener.

Chaparral led 12-4 at halftime before Pinnacle rebounded to close the game to 13-8 in the second half. However, that’s as close as it would get.

“I felt like we came out real strong in the first half,” Chaparral head coach Jessica Livingston said. “We kind of got shocked when Laura hurt her ankle, but then we came on strong in the end.”
